In other words, start with your dessert first. When the present moment passes, it will never repeat itself, or come back. You can not “catch up” or “buy back” time. No matter how rich you are. You cannot buy back your past. Every moment you miss, you miss forever. Even if you had all the money in the world, you cannot buy even a second of time.
Time is a gift from God. Every moment. You didn’t earn it. Let it pass away empty of happiness and you insult the Creator. No matter what God you believe in.
Don’t believe people who say “wait now to be happy later”. The Law of Delayed Gratification doesn’t work that way, nor does it apply to happiness. It applies to efforts. Don’t be afraid or ashamed to be happy. Don’t postpone it. Live it now. Live in the current moment, and live with gratitude. Thank God for every moment that He has given you. Thank for having a home. Thank for having had that nice dinner. Thank for having that keyboard that you use to comment on posts on the Internet. Thank for the air. Thank for being alive. Thank, thank, thank…
If you really manage to live with that degree of gratitude, you can be sure that you will have bad thoughts and depressive moods a lot less, and you will be able to find the silver lining easier, even in hopeless for mere mortals situations. You will be able then to turn every negative experience into a lesson, instead of another frustration. It isn’t easy, and in fact, you are right to say that it’s very hard. Very few can do this.
If you truly make it your goal to live in a state of Peace, Joy, Gratitude, and Love, you will turn your life around and will find it easier to follow your dreams and reach your goals. You will be practically invulnerable to despair and will be in a state of mind in which your creativity and focus will peak. Your clarity will be at its highest and you will never get into another dead end. Nothing will be Over You and You will be never over your head in problems again. You are the Supreme Creation of The Lord God Himself, and this is your natural state of mind, anyway. The long-lost divine state of consciousness.
Monks meditate all their lives in attempts to reach it. You, on the other hand, have better things to do with your life than to meditate all day.
Therefore, resolve to spend your life in Love, beginning with Yourself. Increase your levels of self-love first. And together, work on the Gratitude. Gratitude is the key to unlocking the other two states – Joy and the Peace. When you learn to meet even the most dreadful events with Gratitude… What can break your inner peace and disturb your mind, ruining the Joy of the Present? It has to be something really dreadful and important. Not small, petty every-day troubles, for sure. You will be immune to those, and those are 90% of what is ruining your mood and getting you sick.
Enjoy the Present. Be Grateful. Be happy!
