Self Discipline: Why it matters for success

Self Discipline: Why it matters for success

Self discipline is the foundation of success but do you have it? The self discipline definition is this: the ability to do something whether you like it or not. You stay focused on the task.

Did you know that 97% of Americans don’t have written goals and plans? Going without a written goal is like driving across the countryside without a map. Eventually, you will get somewhere, but it will take you much longer and be much more complicated. You need written goals and plans if you want to be successful in life.

Here are some tips on how to increase your productivity and planning:

  • Make a list of the ten most important things you desire in life. Rewrite the list every day for ten days. On the tenth day, you will notice that you keep on the list the same things over and over again. This exercise of self discipline helps you to achieve clarity about your goals.
  • Put on top of the list your most important goal. This is your major definite purpose in life.
  • Ask yourself what is that one thing, which if you get first, the rest will fall in place automatically.
  • Make a plan for how you are going to get the things you want. Remember, your plan is your best guesstimate. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Remember the self discipline definition from above.
  • Now that you have made the big plans, it’s time to look at them and plan your day accordingly. If you don’t have a plan for your day, you are very likely to fill the time with irrelevant tasks.

To exercise self discipline better, pick something that excites you and you love.

You will find it easier to stay focused on the task if you do something that you love. You don’t want to feel imprisoned by a task that you hate.
